Institut für Lacke und Farben e.V. /
iLF Forschungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft Lacke und Farben mbH

Who we are and what we do?

Both enterprises are private institutions engaged in industry orientated research, development and testing activities in the field of coating products, raw-materials and formulations. Whilst the non-profit making “Institut” is largely engaged in research in order to extend its own know-how as well as to cooperate with partners in industry and other institutes, the “Gesellschaft” carries out contract work for industry and markets the know-how developed by the “Institut”. Our R & D activities and range of services extend from the scientific investigation of demanding problems, the development of modern coating products and the investigation of their raw-materials, to individual tests according to established standards, complex paint inspection on finished components, as well as the evaluation of liquid and powder coatings.

Important dates in our history:

  • 1876: foundation of the Rassbach & Kralle paint factory on the site where the institute now stands.

  • 1950: installation of a central R & D facility of the meanwhile state-owned “Magdeburger Lackfabriken”. In the ensuing period this developed into the central research, development and testing facility of the paint and paint raw materials industry of the German Democratic Republic.

  • 1991: Privatisation as the “Institut für Lacke und Farben e.V.”

  • 1994: Establishment of the separate „iLF Forschungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH“

The major elements of our work are:

  • competent collaboration in close partnership with our customers
  • being responsive to all the customer’s wishes
  • speed
  • exclusivity
  • confidentiality
  • a disciplined price policy

The customer’s satisfaction is our standard.
